Buy Revolution 2020: Book
Revolution 2020 is a gripping and fast paced novel about love, corruption and ambition. The story delves into the underbelly of a small town, Varanasi, and explores the various hues in the characters of the protagonists in it. Bhagat unearths the darker side of the education system, and for that matter, love too.

Summary of Revolution 2020
In the small and historic town of Varanasi in India, two boys Raghav and Gopal fall in love with the same girl, Aarti. Both of them are intelligent, ambitious and are the best of friends, but destiny has something else in store for them. One of them wants to use his intelligence to make a lot of money and the other wants to create a revolution; but again, their plans are disrupted by their love.
Gopal hails from a poor family and fails to get an admission to the best engineering colleges in the country. Heartbroken, he moves to Kota for a year to prepare for the exams. Raghav comes from a well-to-do family and achieves a good rank in JEE. Delighted, he joins IIT-BHU, one of the premier institutes of India, and embarks on his ambition to become a journalist. Aarti hails from a powerful bureaucratic family, and her aim is to become an airhostess. Aarti falls in love with Raghav while Gopal is at Kota.
The story starts when Gopal rises as the director of a new engineering college opened in Varanasi, with the power of MLA Shukla, a corrupt politician. He uses the legally strangled land of his uncle to manipulate and build the college. Raghav, on the other hand, completes his engineering and joins the largest selling newspaper Dainik as an intern. He starts shedding light on all the wrongdoings of Shukla and exposes him in public.
Things take a different turn when Aarti starts developing a soft corner for Gopal.
Who will win her love towards the end?
Will Raghav's crusade against the corrupt system fail?

Huge disappointment

With lots of hopes ,i'd ordered this book.Once booked i kept keeping a check on the shipping !! once received ,i'v read the book immediately ,but it was a huge turn off!! Even still i am confused ,what he was trying to say. is it that true love will be a failure or only professionally successful people are worthy of it or girls dont have brains to think and they will easily bounce to anyone anytime??:( ...CB had given a greater blow now..his two books one night at call center and 3 mistakes were also pathetic ,and thats when he came up with an excellent "two states" and now again his graph is dipping low!!the book jus sounded like any bollywood triangular love story!! nothing grt

Bed time stories are better than this

I have been hearing about Chetan Bhagat's books for the past couple of years from my friends but never really read one. Having seen so much hype about this book, made myself up to read one of his books for the first time and bought "Revolution 2020". My immediate impression after reading the book was "What exactly made him an acclaimed author?". Honestly, I see nothing fascinating in this book. I heard far better bed time stories than this when I was a kid.

I started the book with an enthu which depleted to zero by the time my fingers crossed the last page. Being optimistic, later I read couple of his other books and realized they too more or less belong to the same hut as this. There is no elegance, no literary credit, no hair-rising plot, no many things;

If you really want to read something great from young Indian authors, prefer "Ashwin Sanghi" or "Amish Tripati"...

And it ended, drearily, along expected lines and left me with a sigh

Just because the geography gets changed, does a simplistic love triangle become something more profound? Or different? Or interesting? A new context can help (say, one protagonist being a Japanese villager, one with a permanent disorder caused by the lover or the other claimant in the triangle or a sudden war erupting in the background or some such). Happenings in IIT coaching classes might be good for a personal diary, but doesn't make for a lot of exciting new context in a novel. I liked the Varanasi setting part, but considering the core story is so tame, cliched and worn out, something more was needed to keep us satiated.

I am probably going against the grain of public opinion here, but I have felt that of all Chetan's books, only 3 mistakes of my life had the makings of an epic, based as it is in the midst of riots that strip people off their humanity - the whole theme of ordinary lives with ordinary fears/hopes caught in extraordinary circumstances. Coming back to 2020, I read through it like I do for everything I buy, but there were no uplifting moments. Some had the potential, but ended up as preachy as a principal admonishing 3rd standard students which is never a good thing since the reader feels spoken down to during those instances.

That said, I'll keep buying Chetan's books. Why? first of all, its just Rs 100 a pop or thereabouts, secondly, it does have an Indian feel to it, third, they're all quick reads and fourthly, I truly believe Chetan is well-intentioned and has a good heart. At least, he's trying to spread mostly positive values, sms lingo or otherwise.

Bollywood calling

Please stop bullying the poor chap... Mr. Chetan bhagat never claims to be Salman Rushdie, he writes for the Indian public n they like it!! This fact has been proven time n again. The book rolls out like a feel good Bollywood flick (most will finish in one sitting) n leaves you ...guess what...feeling good
